The police in Norfolk, Nebraska, found themselves making an unusual traffic stop. They received a tip about a man who was spotted driving with a rather unconventional passenger – a massive bull occupying the front passenger seat of his vehicle.
The incident unfolded on a Wednesday morning when local law enforcement received reports of a man driving around town with a cow in the front seat. Initially, the police officers expected to encounter a small calf, given the cramped space of a vehicle’s front passenger seat.
However, to their astonishment, what they discovered was far from ordinary. Inside the vehicle was a Watusi bull, a breed known for its impressive and distinctive spiraling horns.
The driver was identified as Lee Meyer, a resident of Neligh, a town located about 35 miles (approximately 56 kilometers) west of Norfolk. Meyer had modified his vehicle to accommodate the bull comfortably in the front seat, which was a highly unusual sight for anyone witnessing the traffic stop.
Images and video footage from the scene revealed that the back of Meyer’s vehicle had been soiled by the bull, indicating the challenge of transporting such a large animal in a car not designed for this purpose.
According to reports from local media outlets, the Norfolk Police Department issued Meyer a warning and requested that he promptly leave the city with his unexpected passenger and return the bull, aptly named ‘Howdy Doody,’ to its home in Neligh.
Meyer complied with the police request, and Howdy Doody was safely driven back to its residence in Neligh, likely unaware of the brief but memorable car ride that had suddenly thrust it into the national spotlight as news of the unusual traffic stop made headlines.
