Edmonton police announced on Monday that a woman who fell out of a city bus has tragically passed away. The incident occurred last Friday in west Edmonton, leaving the woman seriously injured.
According to the police, the woman was on a southbound bus on 174 Street around 3 p.m. As the bus made a turn onto 95 Ave, she stood and moved towards the back doors. Despite holding a safety bar, she lost her balance, falling backward through the back doors and onto the road.
Transported to the hospital with severe injuries, she succumbed to them early Monday.
Edmonton Transit explained that the doors on buses lock when in motion, but the woman’s impact caused the glass on the doors to break, leading to her falling out. An engineering assessment, along with a “root cause analysis,” will be conducted, as stated by ETS.
