In a move aimed at bolstering its tourism sector in alignment with Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism revealed on Sunday a significant expansion of its electronic tourist visa program. Nationals from eight new countries will now have the opportunity to apply for electronic tourist visas, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to diversify its economy and open its doors to international visitors.

The countries included in this expansion are Azerbaijan, Albania, Uzbekistan, South Africa, Georgia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Maldives. According to an official statement by the Ministry, citizens of these countries can submit their visa applications either electronically or upon arrival at Saudi Arabia’s international entry points. This policy aims to streamline the process and make it more convenient for potential visitors to explore the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Kingdom.
The newly introduced tourist visa not only allows travelers to experience various regions of Saudi Arabia but also grants permission to engage in Umrah, a sacred pilgrimage for Muslims. However, it’s important to note that visitors must adhere to all local regulations and are required to carry their identification documents at all times during their stay.
The Ministry of Tourism clarified that the tourist visa does not grant holders the right to participate in the Hajj pilgrimage or Umrah rituals during the Hajj season. These restrictions are in place to manage the influx of visitors during the annual pilgrimage and maintain the sanctity of the holy sites.
The original tourist visa program was introduced in 2019, initially targeting 49 countries. With this recent expansion, the program now extends its reach to 57 nations, showcasing Saudi Arabia’s eagerness to engage with the global community and share its treasures.
This strategic decision aligns with the comprehensive objectives of Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector strategy, as well as the overarching goals outlined in Vision 2030. Among these goals is the ambition to increase the tourism sector’s contribution to the country’s GDP from 3 percent to over 10 percent. Moreover, the plan aims to generate one million additional job opportunities, prioritizing Saudi citizens, and ultimately attract a staggering 100 million tourists by the year 2030.
The expansion of the tourist e-visa program follows another significant announcement made by the Kingdom earlier in March. Saudi Arabia opened its doors to residents of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, enabling them to obtain a tourist visa regardless of their profession. This inclusive approach seeks to encourage more travelers to explore the diverse landscapes, rich history, and cultural heritage that Saudi Arabia has to offer.
As Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector continues to evolve, these efforts to enhance accessibility and visitor experiences underscore the nation’s determination to become a premier global travel destination. Through initiatives like the expanded e-visa program, the Kingdom is actively shaping its future as a hub of culture, history, and unparalleled hospitality.
