Renowned filmmaker James Cameron has refuted recent speculation that he is working on a project related to the OceanGate submersible tragedy. Taking to Twitter, the director of the Oscar-winning film “Titanic” categorically denied any involvement in a movie about the Titanic-bound submersible that suffered a fatal “catastrophic implosion” last month, resulting in the loss of all five individuals on board.
Cameron addressed the rumors, stating, “I don’t respond to offensive rumors in the media usually, but I need to now. I’m NOT in talks about an OceanGate film, nor will I ever be.” As a filmmaker, Cameron has a deep connection to the Titanic and its history. He has made over 30 dives to the wreckage site and is one of the few people who have explored the Earth’s seabed at its deepest known point.
The tragic incident involved the deaths of Hamish Harding, Shahzada Dawood, Suleman Dawood, Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and Stockton Rush, who were attempting to reach the historic ship wreckage in a submersible named the Titan. Their demise was confirmed after the wreckage was located following an international search.
Cameron previously speculated that an implosion had occurred, sharing his insights with CNN during the incident. CNN has reached out to representatives of James Cameron for further comments on the matter.
The denial by James Cameron puts an end to the speculation surrounding his involvement in a potential film related to the OceanGate submersible tragedy.
