Police in Louisiana are currently investigating a devastating mass shooting that occurred during an annual Fourth of July block party, leaving three people dead and seven others injured. The incident took place in the MLK neighborhood of Shreveport in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
According to the Shreveport Police Department, a total of 10 individuals were shot during the incident, with three tragically losing their lives. Authorities have stated that one of the injured victims remains in critical condition, while the remaining six are expected to recover from their injuries.
As of now, it is unclear whether any arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. However, law enforcement officials are actively investigating the incident, and a press conference has been scheduled for 10 a.m CT to provide updates on the case.
This shooting adds to a series of other fatal shootings that occurred across the country over the July 4th weekend, including incidents in Philadelphia and Washington D.C.
Reports from local TV stations, KSLA and KTBS, indicate that reaching the victims at the scene was initially challenging for first responders due to the large number of vehicles present at the party. Shreveport police Lt. Van Wray expressed the difficulties faced by emergency personnel, stating that many had to park their cars and run to the location due to the overcrowded street.
District A Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor, in an interview with the media, expressed her shock and disappointment over the incident, emphasizing that the block party was meant to be a joyful celebration. She stressed that the community should not have to endure such tragedy and that the shooting has inflicted trauma upon individuals who were simply seeking to enjoy the holiday festivities.
The investigation into the mass shooting is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the process.
