Taylor Swift concluded her sixth and final “Eras Tour” concert at Los Angeles’s SoFi Stadium with a major announcement that had been the subject of speculation among Swifties for weeks.
During the surprise song segment of the concert, which included performances of two songs, including the deluxe track “New Romantics,” Swift confirmed on stage that her next re-record project would be her hugely successful 2014 album “1989.” She expressed her gratitude for her fans’ support in embracing her effort to re-record her first six albums, as evident in videos of the concert shared on social media.
She then directed the audience’s attention to a large video screen displaying the album artwork for “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” confirming that the re-recorded album is set for release in October.
Shortly after her in-concert announcement, Swift took to Instagram to share the news, writing, “Surprise!! 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is on its way to you,” adding that the original “1989” album had a profound impact on her life.
Following her pattern with the “Taylor’s Version” albums, Swift will include several previously unreleased tracks referred to as “from the vault” alongside the re-recorded versions of the original songs. In her Instagram post, she mentioned that this album contains her “most favorite re-record” she’s ever done due to the remarkable quality of the “5 From The Vault” tracks.
“1989” is arguably Swift’s most popular album and marked her transition from country-pop to full pop music. It features hit tracks such as “Shake it Off,” “Bad Blood,” and “Blank Space.” The album garnered a total of 10 Grammy nominations at the time, with Swift winning three awards, including Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Music Video for “Bad Blood.”
In 2019, Swift announced her intention to re-record her first six studio albums after her former label sold her master recordings. She has since released “Taylor’s Version” albums for “Red,” “Speak Now,” and “Fearless.” Following “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” Swift is expected to release re-recorded versions of her 2018 album “Reputation” and her 2006 self-titled debut album “Taylor Swift.”
The “Eras Tour” will resume for its international leg on August 24 in Mexico City, while “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” is scheduled for release on October 27.
