The Nova Scotia RCMP announced on Tuesday that the body of a second missing child, who was swept away during flash flooding, has been found in the West Hants community of Brooklyn. The child’s identity has been confirmed as one of the two children reported missing after a series of rainstorms on Saturday.
Additionally, human remains discovered by civilians on the shore in a tidal area of a neighboring location were confirmed to belong to the other missing child. Thus far, four individuals, including two children, one youth, and one adult, were reported missing after the vehicles they were traveling in were submerged during the flash floods. On Monday, the body of the missing 52-year-old Windsor man was also recovered.
The children were traveling with three other individuals who managed to escape the flooding. The ongoing search efforts to locate the missing youth will continue, with the support of various rescue teams and agencies, including West Hants, East Hants, Digby, Annapolis, and Valley rescue teams, multiple fire departments, Department of Natural Resources and Renewables, and the RCMP dog and air services.
The rainstorms caused significant damage across Nova Scotia, with some areas experiencing up to 250 millimeters of rain, resulting in extensive destruction to roads, bridges, and homes. As authorities continue their efforts to locate the missing youth, the community remains united in their support, hoping for a safe and timely resolution to this tragic incident.
