In anticipation of the decision on hosting the World Expo, Saudi Arabia provided a first look at its proposed Riyadh Expo 2030 site earlier this week. The Kingdom aspires to host the international event from October 1, 2030, to March 31, 2031, under the theme “The Era of Change: Together for a Foresighted Tomorrow.”
The proposed site covers an expansive seven square kilometers and features a captivating “Loop of the World” avenue, which will connect pavilions representing more than 220 countries. To offer a glimpse of what visitors can expect, a promotional video titled “Riyadh is ready” was shared on Twitter.

The 39-second clip showcased a panoramic view of modern-day Riyadh, a testament to Saudi Arabia’s transformative journey. It emphasized the Kingdom’s focus on sustainability, a key theme for Expo 2030 if the bid is successful. The video also highlighted Riyadh’s strategic accessibility, aiming to be the “most connected Expo ever.” Riyadh Air, the airline partner, will facilitate visitors from across the globe, allowing seamless travel from the airport to the exhibition site in just five minutes.
The chosen location for Riyadh Expo 2030 will be near the developing King Salman International Airport, ensuring easy access for attendees arriving in the city. The Riyadh Metro network will provide efficient transportation, linking all parts of the city to the exhibition site.
The decision on hosting the prestigious Expo 2030 event will be announced in November. Saudi Arabia faces competition from Busan, South Korea, Rome, and Odessa in Ukraine.
The Kingdom’s master plan for Expo 2030, presented during an official reception in Paris, aligns with its commitment to carbon neutrality and adherence to international sustainability standards. The blueprint incorporates urban afforestation, the use of treated water, and the integration of renewable energy sources.
The design of the exhibition reflects Riyadh’s rich history, culture, and urban style, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s concern for climate issues and its vision for a promising future. The Expo will comprise approximately 226 pavilions, symbolizing the Kingdom’s role in fostering global cooperation. To facilitate visitors’ journeys, the site will offer fully shaded corridors inspired by Riyadh’s architectural heritage.
Moreover, the exhibition will feature a modern green oasis along one of the tributaries of Wadi As-Sulai. A landmark at the heart of Riyadh Expo 2030, constructed on 195 columns representing participating countries, will be surrounded by three pavilions, each focusing on the exhibition’s sub-themes of “Prosperity for All,” “Climate Action,” and “A Different Tomorrow.”
To encourage innovation and creativity leading up to and beyond the event, the Collaborative Change Corner (C3) will be established. This area aims to showcase the collective effort of bright minds in driving changes that will shape the future in scientific, social, and intellectual spheres. Riyadh Expo 2030 aims to provide an exceptional experience for over 40 million visitors, offering a platform for global collaboration and envisioning a more sustainable and interconnected world.
