Saudi Arabia expressed its support for the restoration of diplomatic ties between Egypt and Turkey, marking a significant step towards normalizing relations between the two countries after a decade of strained relations.
In a joint announcement on Tuesday, Egypt and Turkey revealed that they have appointed ambassadors to each other’s capitals, effectively reinstating diplomatic relations that had been severed in 2013. The breakdown in relations occurred when then-army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi removed Mohamed Mursi, an ally of Ankara, from power, leading to heightened tensions between the two nations. Egypt expelled the Turkish ambassador and accused Turkey of supporting organizations that aimed to destabilize the country, resulting in a prolonged absence of ambassadors.
Saudi Arabia, through a statement from its foreign ministry, expressed its admiration for the reappointment of ambassadors, stating that this significant development would have a positive impact on regional and international security, peace, and the advancement of common interests. The Saudi government believes that this step will contribute to fulfilling the aspirations of both countries and the people of the region.
