A Quebec woman, Pascale Ferrier, has been sentenced to nearly 22 years in prison for sending a letter containing poison to former U.S. President Donald Trump. This verdict comes after Ferrier agreed to the sentence as part of a plea agreement reached in January. The final approval from D.C. district court Judge Dabney Friedrich was granted recently.
Ferrier, who was born in France, pleaded guilty to nine counts of biological weapons charges, each carrying a potential maximum life sentence. She was arrested at the Canada-U.S. border in September 2020 after sending a threatening letter to Trump laced with homemade poison ricin. The letter, intercepted two months before the 2020 presidential election, referred to Trump as an “ugly tyrant clown” and called for him to withdraw from the race.
Of the nine charges, eight are related to an indictment in Texas, where Ferrier was accused of sending similar poisoned letters to police and prison officials.
