Owen Sound police are making a public appeal for video surveillance footage that could help shed light on the events surrounding a fatal shooting that occurred at an apartment complex earlier this month.
On July 11, the Owen Sound Police Service (OSPS) received a report of gunshots at an apartment complex on 6th Avenue West shortly after 1 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a man who had been shot and killed.
The following day, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Tactics and Rescue Unit arrested a 34-year-old man from Owen Sound, who has since been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the incident.
As the investigation into the homicide continues, the police are seeking assistance from the public to submit any relevant video surveillance footage from the evening of July 10 to the early morning of July 11. Specifically, they are interested in footage captured between the hours of 11 p.m. and 3:30 a.m.
Police are particularly interested in receiving footage from the following areas:
- Alpha Street to 1st Ave West, between 10th Street West and 14th Street West.
- 2nd Ave West to 8th Ave West, between 26th Street West and 29th Street West.
- 2nd Ave East to 4th Ave East, between 17th Street East and 18th Street East.
The authorities believe that any video footage from these areas and time frames could provide crucial evidence in helping to understand the circumstances leading to the tragic shooting.
To facilitate the submission of video evidence, individuals with relevant footage are encouraged to provide it online through the designated channels.
Despite the arrest of a suspect, the investigation remains ongoing as the police work diligently to uncover all the facts surrounding the homicide. The public’s cooperation in providing surveillance footage is seen as instrumental in helping the authorities piece together the events leading up to the incident.
Anyone with information related to the case or who may have video footage from the specified locations and time frames is urged to come forward and assist the police in their efforts to bring justice to the victim and their family.
