Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), will be retiring in March 2024, marking the end of his 30-year tenure in the PlayStation business, according to an announcement by Sony. Hiroki Totoki, President, COO, and CFO of Sony Group Corporation, will become SIE’s chairman next month to facilitate the transition and will serve as interim CEO upon Ryan’s retirement.
Ryan, who joined SIE in 1994, has held various senior positions within the company, including President of SIE Europe, Head of Global Sales and Marketing at SIE, and Deputy President of SIE. Notably, he oversaw the successful launch of the PlayStation 5, considered the most successful platform in PlayStation’s history.
In explaining his decision, Ryan cited difficulties reconciling his life in Europe with his work in North America. He expressed gratitude for having the privilege to work on products that have had a profound impact on millions of people worldwide.
