The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has announced that it will honor Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, Michael B. Jordan, and Sofia Coppola at its annual fundraising gala on October 14 in Los Angeles. This event, which marks the third such gala, has become a pivotal fundraising occasion for the museum since its opening in 2021. The gala received approval from the actors and writers guilds for its promotion activities, even amid ongoing work stoppages by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild.
During the event, Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, Michael B. Jordan, and Sofia Coppola will each be recognized for their remarkable careers. The gala’s co-chairs include Ava DuVernay, Ryan Murphy, Halle Berry, and museum trustee Eric Esrailian.
Jacqueline Stewart, the director and president of the Academy Museum, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming gala, stating, “We are excited to gather again at our third annual Academy Museum Gala to celebrate the power, global impact, and indelible importance of cinema.”
After encountering delays, the Academy Museum, designed by Renzo Piano and with a budget of $484 million, has established itself as a cultural hub in Los Angeles. It draws in as many as 700,000 visitors annually, becoming a prominent fixture in the city’s cultural landscape.
