Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta Platforms Inc., made his first tweet in over 11 years, taking a playful swipe at Elon Musk on the same day that Meta’s Instagram launched Threads, a highly anticipated alternative to Twitter.
Threads is considered a significant threat to Twitter, which has been facing various challenges and criticisms lately under Musk’s ownership. To mark the occasion, Zuckerberg tweeted a photo of two identical Spider-Men engaged in a face-off.

This tweet from Zuckerberg appears to be his first since 2012, as he rarely uses the platform. It comes two weeks after Musk playfully challenged Zuckerberg to a cage fight, to which Musk responded with his own comments about Instagram.
Threads is capitalizing on Twitter’s recent missteps. Since Musk’s acquisition of the company for $44 billion in October, Twitter has undergone layoffs, relaxed content moderation policies, and faced technical issues that affected users and advertisers.
In a controversial move, Twitter implemented a daily limit on the number of tweets users can view, which Musk referred to as a “temporary” measure to combat data scrapers and bots.
Zuckerberg expressed his perspective on Threads, stating that there should be a public conversations app with over a billion users. He mentioned that Twitter had the opportunity to achieve this but fell short, expressing hopes that Threads would succeed in filling that void.
