CHICAGO – A 23-year-old man, identified as Romeo Nance, has killed eight people at three locations in the Chicago suburbs. The victims, discovered over a span of two days, were found in homes in Will County and Joliet. Authorities, including the FBI’s fugitive task force, are actively searching for the suspect, who is considered “armed and dangerous.”
The motive behind the shootings remains unknown, and police have disclosed that Nance was acquainted with the victims. The crime scenes, described by Joliet Police Chief William Evans as one of the worst he has encountered in his 29-year career, have left the community on edge.
Deputies had been monitoring one of the houses since Sunday evening, suspecting the possible return of the assailant. The discovery of the first bodies occurred when deputies, finding no one at the initial location, approached a linked house across the street.
The victims found in the Joliet homes on Monday were identified as family members, though it’s unclear if they were related to the suspect. The investigation is ongoing, and autopsies are pending to determine the time of death.
Residents in the affected neighborhood are shaken, with one resident expressing fear and anxiety over the proximity of the violence to her home. The police have shared images of the suspect and a red Toyota Camry, believed to be connected to the crime scenes. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant as the manhunt intensifies, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
