A tragic incident occurred in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, south of Victoria, as a 12-metre yacht sank, resulting in the death of one man.
The British Columbia Coroners Service is currently investigating the fatality.
The United States Coast Guard successfully rescued a woman and two teenage girls from a dinghy associated with the sinking vessel.
The victims were airlifted to Victoria General Hospital due to signs of hypothermia.
The sunken yacht, named A Little Serenity, was located nearby and was registered in Kenmore, Washington.
All four individuals on board were U.S. citizens. The cause of the sinking and the man’s death remains unknown.
The Canadian and U.S. Coast Guards collaborated in the operation, with the Canadian Coast Guard recovering the deceased male.
The U.S. Coast Guard received the distress call from the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria.
The incident occurred amidst rough weather conditions with seas measuring 1.5 meters and winds reaching 37 km/h.
