Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet is scheduled to make an official visit to China this week, where he will engage in crucial meetings with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji, as announced by China’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, during a regular briefing on Monday.
Mao Ning stated, “At the invitation of Premier Li Qiang… Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet will pay an official visit to China from September 14th to 16th.” She further confirmed that President Xi Jinping will meet with Prime Minister Hun Manet during his visit, highlighting the significance of the diplomatic engagement.
Cambodia has solidified its position as one of China’s staunchest allies in the Asian region, benefiting from substantial Chinese investments in various sectors. The relationship between the two countries has strengthened over the years, marked by economic cooperation and political ties.
Hun Manet, who succeeded his father, longtime Cambodian leader Hun Sen, in August, is set to embark on one of his first official trips abroad since assuming office. His participation in the ASEAN leaders’ summit in Jakarta last week marked his initial foray into international diplomacy.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Mao emphasized the significance of this visit, stating, “This will be Prime Minister Hun Manet’s first official visit since taking office,” and underlining the new Cambodian government’s commitment to further developing China-Cambodia relations.
The visit is expected to bolster diplomatic ties, strengthen economic cooperation, and reinforce the growing partnership between Cambodia and China. It underscores the importance of fostering friendly relations between the two nations in the evolving geopolitical landscape of Southeast Asia.
