Tragedy struck Nova Scotia as first responders recovered the body of a 52-year-old Windsor man and unidentified human remains amidst the aftermath of a devastating flood. The incident occurred when the man, a youth, and two children were reported missing on a Saturday, as they found themselves trapped in flood waters while attempting to evacuate the area.
The unprecedented weather event has left the province grappling with record-breaking floodwaters, and the search for the other missing individuals is still ongoing.
In their efforts to find the remaining victims, the RCMP issued a press release confirming the continued use of industrial and high-flow pumping equipment to lower the water level in the primary search area of Brooklyn.
Multiple search and rescue teams from West Hants, East Hants, and Valley have joined forces with the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables to aid in the search operations.
Nova Scotia’s Premier, Tim Houston, expressed profound sorrow over the tragic event, stating, “It is a terrible day for our province. I’m at a loss to understand a tragedy of this magnitude. I know Nova Scotians feel the same way. We can always rebuild roads and bridges and repair homes. We can never bring our loved ones back. These losses will be the legacy of these floods.”
Acknowledging the dedication and unwavering efforts of the first responders in their search, Premier Houston extended his gratitude to them and conveyed that he will continue to pray for the safe return of the missing individuals. The community stands united in grief and hope for the safe resolution of this heart-wrenching ordeal.
