Bangladesh observed its 53rd Victory Day on Saturday, commemorating the Liberation War of 1971 with solemnity and heartfelt tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s independence.
The day began with a 31-gun salute in the early hours, followed by President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paying respects at the National Mausoleum in Savar, located on the outskirts of the capital, Dhaka.
A meticulously dressed contingent of the Bangladesh Armed Forces presented a state salute, accompanied by the somber tones of a bugle playing a dirge. The national flag was raised on all government and private buildings, while significant structures were illuminated in honor of the occasion.
Cities, including the capital, witnessed the adornment of important roads and road islands with national flags and vibrant festoons, contributing to a festive atmosphere.
Special prayers were conducted in mosques, temples, pagodas, and other places of worship, seeking blessings for the departed souls and the nation’s peace, progress, and prosperity.
To mark the significance of the day, newspapers published special supplements, and television and radio stations broadcasted dedicated programs, reflecting on the historical events that led to Bangladesh’s independence.
