When we typically think of “luxury vehicles,” iconic names like Rolls-Royce Phantoms, Lamborghinis, or Ferraris often come to mind. However, imagine an incredibly extravagant vehicle designed for leisure – that’s where the Elemment Palazzo Superior steps in.
Prepare to be captivated, as you might find yourself slowing down to gawk or even coming to a complete halt when this spaceship-like recreational vehicle glides down the highway.
Crafted by Marchi Mobile, a subsidiary of Marchi Holding AG, a European automotive company specializing in healthcare trucks and promotional vehicles, the Elemment Palazzo Superior is an unparalleled sight on the road. It boldly proclaims itself as the “world’s most luxurious mobile home,” blending inspirations from sports cars, aviation, and yachting to achieve its distinct and captivating appearance.
With costs ranging between $2 million and $4 million, depending on tailored configurations, each RV requires approximately two years of meticulous craftsmanship to be brought to life. The Elemment Palazzo Superior is a remarkable testament to opulence and innovation in the world of recreational vehicles.
“In all honesty, the initial inspiration behind designing the Elemment Palazzo was a touch selfish – it stemmed from my personal desire for enjoyment. I had grown weary of the offerings within the automotive industry,” reveals Mario Marchi, the visionary founder of the Marchi Group and the driving creative mind behind this remarkable RV, in an exclusive conversation with CNN Travel.
“Nearly every RV seemed to adhere to a monotonous design and predictable functionality. I was unwilling to simply conform to that commonplace and uninspiring trend. My aspiration was to craft something that would stand out, something genuinely distinctive,” he emphasizes.
Embarking on a journey
Originally hailing from Vienna, Austria, Marchi believes that his destiny was intricately woven with designing automobiles.
“My very first word in life, even before ‘mom’ and ‘dad,’ was ‘auto,’ so it’s quite clear that this is what I was meant to do,” he affirms. “I have a deep fondness for all kinds of vehicles, and I consider myself lucky to be able to work on what truly ignites my passion.”
His father was the proprietor of a trucking transportation company, where he not only operated heavy trucks but also dabbled in the realm of show truck design.
Fueled by his fervor for design, Marchi established the Marchi Group in 2002.
“That was truly the genesis,” he reflects. “I continued to craft vehicle designs and personalize large trucks, constructing semi-trailers with extended living spaces and stretchable trailers, consistently striving to introduce innovation.” After encountering a groundbreaking prototype of a truck cab by the pioneering German automotive designer Luigi Colani, known for envisioning futuristic vehicles for renowned brands like BMW and Volkswagen, Marchi embarked on a mission to turn this visionary concept into reality.
“The initial prototype wasn’t very practical to drive because functionality wasn’t the primary focus,” he explains. “But our aspiration was to create a luxurious vehicle that was as visually appealing as it was functionally impressive.”
Marchi’s journey into designing the Elemment began in 2005 when he commenced sketching ideas, collaborated with a team of engineers to meticulously handcraft the maiden vehicle in 2010, and ultimately introduced the inaugural model in 2012.
Since then, the RV’s overarching aesthetic has remained consistent, but aspects ranging from the front grille to the materials utilized and the manufacturing process have all undergone evolutionary changes.
“Step by step, unit by unit, we have been enhancing the vehicle with each iteration,” he elaborates. “Each RV is uniquely tailored, allowing us the flexibility to continually upgrade and innovate.”
Over the past decade, Marchi embraced the utilization of robotic assembly for constructing the units, developed post-sale spare parts to support clients, and transitioned from the original fiberglass construction to industrial-grade carbon fiber, renowned for its heightened durability, strength, and lighter weight.
A 4D Theater Experience
Upon encountering the Elemment Palazzo Superior, your attention will likely be drawn to its futuristic cab, boasting a large, bug-eyed windshield and an elevated driver’s seat.
Taking cues from helicopters, this cockpit is positioned on the RV’s second level, providing a sensation akin to soaring above the road.
The interior mirrors the ambiance of a commercial airline, featuring captain’s chairs and a digital aviation dashboard.
“I’ve operated a wide array of vehicles in my lifetime, and I must say that this offers the finest and most awe-inspiring driving encounter,” shares Marchi.
“It’s akin to being within a 4D cinema – offering an astounding 180-degree panorama around you.”
Moreover, the aerodynamic design was crafted to diminish fuel consumption.
According to Marchi, this 28-ton RV holds a drag coefficient (or wind resistance) of 0.36, translating to approximately 20% greater fuel efficiency compared to a conventional RV of similar proportions.
In contrast, the typical sports car boasts a drag coefficient of 0.30.
Feel Right at Home
Measuring approximately 40-45 feet in length and 8.5 feet wide (or 16 feet when fully expanded), this RV showcases oval windows reminiscent of yacht portholes, sleek chrome accents, and what Marchi refers to as “race car design lines.”
Inside, the opulence continues, offering a sprawling 732 square feet of living area. Lavish details are abundant, ranging from underfloor radiant heating and atmospheric lighting to customizable temperature zones, a high-end kitchenette, a cozy fireplace, and automated sliding doors.
One of Marchi’s personal highlights is the inviting living room space, tailor-made for entertaining. This area boasts a wrap-around sofa, a 42-inch LED screen TV, and an adjacent bar cabinet with a wine fridge.
“The floorplan we crafted ensures not only comfort but also the ability to host friends while maintaining your personal space,” he notes.
Fit for Royalty
Beyond the kitchen, a concealed sliding door reveals an expansive primary bedroom. This secluded retreat offers a dressing space, a generously sized TV, abundant storage, and a king-sized bed crafted by Hypnos, a fourth-generation family business based in England that provides beds and mattresses to the British royal family.
Marchi explains, “The interior design reflects my personal preferences and adheres to European standards. It draws inspiration from Italian history, featuring a Venetian-style influence.”
The primary bedroom also boasts a dedicated “spa room” featuring a rain shower and ambient light therapy, evoking the ambiance of a high-end luxury hotel.
Elevate the Roof
Adding a touch of luxury, the Sky Lounge takes center stage as the RV’s pinnacle feature. Resembling the flybridge of a yacht, this rooftop terrace gracefully emerges from the RV’s roof using an automated lift system.
For seamless entertainment while on the move, Marchi has left no stone unturned: the Sky Lounge comes complete with built-in furniture, a Steinway & Lyngdorf sound system, radiant floor heating, and a sun canopy.
And if anything is missing? Marchi assures that customization is key. Clients can tailor their experience, whether it’s incorporating a meeting room and captain’s chairs for business needs, adding an extra bedroom, or fine-tuning interior design choices.
“Our adaptability is a hallmark – our clientele spans diverse purposes and preferences, making each vehicle a unique creation,” says Marchi.
Typically attracting high-net-worth individuals or companies, their customers often include those who spend considerable time on the road for work or prefer driving over flying. Additionally, some intend to use the vehicle for events and promotional endeavors.
“Many of our clients relish the sensation of piloting this road-worthy space rocket,” Marchi notes. “We also collaborate with passionate collectors who seek something truly distinctive.”
