In a tweet on Sunday, Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Twitter, revealed his plans to change the social media platform’s logo. He tweeted, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.” Musk also hinted at the possibility of adopting a new “X” logo, posting an image of a flickering “X” and stating, “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make it go live worldwide tomorrow.”
Since acquiring Twitter in October, Musk’s tenure has been marked by several significant changes, including renaming the company to X Corp, signifying his ambition to create a “super app” similar to China’s WeChat. Twitter’s current logo, depicting a blue bird, is considered its most recognizable asset, according to the company’s website.
Musk’s recent announcement comes amidst ongoing developments in his other ventures. His new artificial intelligence company, xAI, is planning to use public tweets from Twitter to train its AI models and collaborate with Tesla on AI software. During a Twitter Spaces audio chat, Musk suggested that a relationship between his companies could have “mutual benefit” and potentially accelerate Tesla’s progress in self-driving capabilities.
However, the billionaire’s tenure at Twitter has not been without challenges. The company is currently facing a lawsuit filed last week, claiming it owes at least $500 million in severance pay to former employees. Twitter has also undergone significant layoffs to cut costs since Musk’s acquisition of the company.
As of now, Twitter has not released further details regarding the logo change. Musk’s tweets have garnered significant attention and anticipation from users, awaiting the potential transformation of the iconic Twitter bird logo.
