Sources have confirmed that Manuel Rocha, a former U.S. diplomat, has been arrested and is scheduled to appear in federal court in Florida on Monday.
The 73-year-old was taken into custody on Friday, with accusations of covertly acting as an agent for the government of Cuba, as reported by the Associated Press.
Rocha, a career U.S. foreign service officer, had previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Bolivia in 2000, according to a State Department biography.
The Department of Justice declined to provide comments on the matter.
